Historic Hills and Dales Estate Field Trip: February 28, 2019

Hills and Dales Estate in LaGrange, completed in 1916, features a home that was designed to flow gracefully into its gardens—a series of dwarf boxwood parterres that have adorned the estate’s terraces for more than 175 years. Hills and Dales is considered one of the best preserved 19th century gardens in the country. Join us to tour both the Historic Formal Landscaped Gardens and Callaway Family Home.

Historic Hills and Dales Estate - Tour of both Home and Gardens

1916 Hills and Dales Drive, LaGrange, GA. 30240
Join us to tour both the Historic Formal Landscaped Gardens and Callaway Family Home. While developed in phases the initial section, boxwood gardens surrounding the home, was started in 1832. It is considered the best preserved 19th Century Garden. The Italian villa designed by Neel Reid was built in 1916. We will have guided tours of both the house and the gardens. The emphasis in the gardens will be on “approach to preservation of old gardens including maintenance and selection of replacement plants.”

While a guided tour of the house is part of the general admission, a guided tour of the Grounds is special for our Group. Look at their web site http://www.hillsanddales.org/plan-your-visit/about-us/# the buttons under explore - Signature Plants, Maps and Bloom Calendar are also interesting.

The tour will begin at 10:30 a.m. and last for about two hours. We are welcome to stay in the garden the whole day. The cost of guided tours of both the house and gardens is $20.50/person. Only GMGA members may participate, so if you are not currently a member, please join GMGA now and enjoy this beautiful garden tour.
