CANTON: Tomato Taste Contest

Cherokee County Senior Services, 1001 Univeter Road, Canton, 30115. The Tomato Taste Contest is a hilarious, light-hearted contest held annually. Master Gardeners and their spouses submit tomato entries in three categories: cherry tomatoes, yellow tomatoes, and slicer tomatoes. The seniors served by the Cherokee County Senior Services sample the entries and pick a winner in each category. An overall prize, the coveted Golden Zucchini Award, is presented to the contestant who receives the most votes. A second prize, the Everlasting Tomato, is awarded to the contestant who brings in the most tomatoes (measured by weight.) The very best reward is seeing the gleeful delight on the seniors’ faces as they taste fresh, homegrown tomatoes. ALL master gardeners and spouses are welcome to this rollicking, happy event served up with bragging and joking and smiles. The contest is followed by a tomato sandwich lunch for the seniors, an aspect they look forward to each summer.
