LAWRENCEVILLE: GCMGA MONTHLY MEETING - Community or Urban Gardening as an Answer to Food Insecurity

Bethesda Senior Center, 225 Bethesda Church Road, Lawrenceville, GA.  GCMGA meetings are free and open to the public. If you would like to join us for lunch, please come at 12:00 pm and bring a dish to share. Our speaker, Moe Hemmings is the Community Outreach Manager at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, a role that seeks to expand the garden’s support of urban agriculture, environmental sustainability and community engagement around local food systems. After graduating from Virginia Tech with a degree in Horticulture, Moe began her career at The Living with the Land Greenhouse at the Walt Disney World Resort, allowing her to pursue gardening with an emphasis on food and children. Disney provided an excellent opportunity to grow her joy of working with food and getting the next generation excited about plants, a love she brought with her to The Atlanta Botanical Garden. Moe’s duties included the design, planning, development of signage, and maintenance of the vegetable plantings in the Children’s Garden. In 2013, Moe was promoted to Senior Horticulturist responsible for the Edible Garden. In 2016, Moe transitioned to the newly renovated Lou Glenn Children's Garden as the Educational Horticulturist.
