Lumpkin County Parks & Rec, 365 Riley Road, Dahlonega. Eastern Hemlocks are a keystone species for providing a healthy forest ecosystem and they are seriously threatened by the Hemlock Wooly Adelgid (HWA). This tiny predator is literally sucking the life from our hemlocks. Efforts by the UNG Ecological Protection Lab (EPL) to release predatory beetles to kill HWA is the focus of our Georgia Mountains Master Gardener April education program. Our speaker is Karrie Ann Fadroski from EPL who will outline their work to help preserve Georgia’s hemlock trees. For information contact Lumpkin County Extension at uge1187@uga.edu or 706-864-2275.
