The UGA Heritage Apple Orchard is working to preserve varieties of apple trees that flourished in Georgia during the early 20th century. Josh Fuder, Cherokee County Extension Agent, will speak at the January education meeting of Georgia Mountains Master Gardeners on their effort to study over 138 apple varieties at the Blairsville orchard. Their plan is to rediscover forgotten apple varieties and perhaps start a revival of heritage Georgia apples. Please join us on at Lumpkin County Parks & Recreation, 365 Riley Road, to hear about the effort. The meeting is free and open to the public. For information, contact Lumpkin County Extension at 706-864-2275 or email at uge1187@uga.edu.
